Unforeseen Invitation

[Speedy]

"Hey, stop having fun, or I'm going to charge you for being in my complex!" Speedy smiled as he made the joke. He had avoided Hawkye in his mad dash, and was only now catching up to him. As Speedy stepped off at the end, the escalator stopped and the walls came back.

He then proceeded to the next hallway, and placed his hand on the wall again, this time keeping his fingers in a different position. This was followed by the wall collapsing inwards again. "Well, get on then.." He said, with a minor smirk on his face, not looking at Hawkye..

Even though he was only going at a "normal" running speed, Hawkye sailed a respectable distance before landing solidly.

"Fine. I'll get my OWN secret underground lair then! Oh WAIT..."

Hawkye smirked and followed Speedy like a normal person this time around.

[Speedy]

"See, that's how I deal with people who have fun, I make little men cry by having it suddenly stop and then go backwards!" He smirks, as he approaches the end of the second escalator, this time it moving forward properly. "..Also, you have an underground lair, so make them escalators!"

Speedy smiled a bit more and then opened the next door. "Za cafetaria! Or at least, the one that was closest."

[Hawkye]

"I have escalators. And descendalators. And these nifty moving walkways. And also some of those old-fashioned Umbrella lab elevators. Can't properly mad scientist it up without those."

Hawkye stepped off the moving walkway into the cafeteria.

"So you have sandvich here?"

[Speedy]

"Well, no, but I do have Jarate." Hands Hawkye a bottle with suspicious thick, yellow fluid inside.. which basically appeared out of nowhere, too.

"Also, ofcourse I have sandvich. But I also am too lazy to get sandvich. I know you may be in lunch time, but this is midnight snack time for me!" Speedy walks behind the counter, and grabs a bag of potato chips. "Mm, hot and spicy. Just as good as the official brand, if not better. Certainly cheaper.. You want one, too? Or are you so dead-set on sandvich right now?"

[Hawkye]

"I could go for both, really. I'm pretty hungry."

Hawkye sets the "jarate" of orange juice down on the counter and leans against it.

"So what made you think to stop by here first?"

[Speedy]

"Midnight snack." He says, crunching on a chip. "Duh."

Speedy puts down a plate on the counter, puts a slice of bread on it, followed by some greens, some tomato's.. and a bag of chips.. with another slice of bread on top.

"There ya go."

[Hawkye]

"Heh. Right."

Hawkye looks down at the bizarre sandwich and beams.

"This...is one of the most Awesome things ever."

He lifts it up to his ear as if he can hear it.

"Vhat vas that, sandvich? Eat them all? Good idea!"

Hawkye opens the bag of chips, pours them into the sandwich, then proceeds to devour it.

"Good stuff, Maynard."

[Speedy]

"Alrighty then.."

He walks to the nearest table and sits down.

"So Hawk.. What were you up to before you found out you were low on fuel?"

[Hawkye]

"I was using up the fuel. What, you've never just flown or driven because you felt like it? The Samus is like a Corvette times eleventy billion. Although I wouldn't recommend flying with the cockpit open. It's not meant to be a convertible."

He sits down opposite Speedy.

"The Samus has excellent fuel efficiency so I don't usually refuel until I'm back at the Lab or on the Carrier. But I'm glad I was in the neighborhood this time around."

[Speedy]

"Why, cause of the EXCELLENT DEAL Trademarksymbol? It's not as if I'm the best guy to ask or anything.. oh wait, yes I am."

Speedy throws back a few more chips, crunching them up as he chews. After swallowing, he continues talking.

"So anyway.. you were basically just joyriding the Samus, huh..? Normally when I fly just because I felt like it, I dont use a vehicle.."

[Hawkye]

"You don't have the Samus," Hawkye pointed out. "Sure, I go flying under my own power too. But they're two different things. It's not like it's the first time I've done it or anything you know," he laughed.

[Speedy]

Speedy grabbed another few chips and crunched it.. "So Hawk.. you ever wonder why.. we're able to do these feats, like flying and such.. why you're the one with these abilities and not your next door neighbor or something.. ?"

He looked at Hawkye as he asked the question. "I mean, what makes you or me different from other people? I could totally throw back like 30 of these bags and not gain any negative effect from it either. The last few times I was sick was because of energy overflow.. Before something 'supernatural' ever happened to me, I was troubled with my asthma, and I was more sick than I should be. I might still 'have' asthma, but I can just change the flow of air within myself now.. And what about you..?

I just dont know.. if everything happened to someone else, would things be the same..? What if Speedy as you know 'him' would be a mage with elemental abilities? Perhaps some kickboxer? I'm supposed to be a nerd, how did I become like this..?"

[Hawkye]

Hawkye shrugged.

"Sure, that's a philosophical question that gets kicked around every now and again, but I started this gig when I was ten. I've mostly moved beyond--"

Hawkye suddenly winced as if someone had blasted a discordant note directly into his ear.

<Analysis complete. You're not going to like this...>

"Uh, moved beyond the question of 'why' and focused more on 'what'. As in 'what should I do with these abilities."

[Speedy]

"Hm?" Speedy raised his eyebrow when Hawkye ceased his chat for a moment.

"..Well, I suppose. I just often wonder what could've been different, you know.. I mean.. other dimensions go without YOU. How do they handle their situations.. if you're not there? We both know I havent always been around.."
